Project Reflection Assignment

Revised Unit 2 Project:

Original Unit 2 Project:

It was satisfying to have the opportunity to revise one of my previous projects. Since I turned it in, I’ve wanted to go back and rework our unit 2 Project. I enjoyed working with Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator, and feel my skills have improved with these programs over the semester.

My relationship to the topic stems from a family interest in gems and stones. We collect them from different curiosity shops when we travel. It was gratifying to use my husband and daughter as actors in the follow-up project in Premier Pro, and it deepened my experience with this subject.

When I reevaluated the project, the first thing I noticed was that there was too much color. It made the overall project feel less polished. I chose one of the accent colors and paired it with black. This gave the project a sleeker, more modern look. To make these changes, I simply recolored my logo in Illustrator and used the “place” feature in InDesign to replace all of the logos.

Next, I moved on to font choices. My original design had far too many fonts in it. Originally this was an attempt to have the various elements pop, but I realized it was ultimately distracting. I chose the Segoe font family to execute the changes in various weights. I also used a faint stroke around the borders of the letters to help them stand out while minimizing distraction.

Lastly, I used beveled boarders around all of the pictures and most of the boarders. I felt this gave the project a more refined feel and tied in all of the black.

I chose to alter the project in this manner because I felt that with a more modern, clean feel to the designs, it would be better received by viewers.
If I were to employ this project for professional application, my vision would be to immediately capture the viewer’s attention and then leave them feeling uplifted and curious about our products. I would likely choose the medium of a poster. I had the most fun creating posters and flyers this semester. The large canvas and readability make it a rewarding process.

My defined audience is gem and stone enthusiasts. I believe I refined my content in a way that makes it more visually appealing, thus increasing aesthetic enjoyment, and achieving greater engagement.

Thank you for joining me over the semester as we’ve explored multimedia content creation.
